Sunan Ibn Majah 1388 (Book 5, Hadith 586) #30740
The Night of Mid-Shaban

SUMMARY: Allah descends to the lowest heaven on the night of mid-Shaban and asks if anyone needs forgiveness, provision, or relief from trouble.

It was narrated that 'Ali bin Abu Talib said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'When it is the night of the middle of Sha’ban, spend its night in prayer and observe a fast on that day. For Allah descends at sunset on that night to the lowest heaven and says: 'Is there no one who will ask Me for forgiveness, that I may forgive him? Is there no one who will ask Me for provision, that I may provide for him? Is there no one who is afflicted by trouble, that I may relieve him?’ And so on, until dawn comes.’"

QUICK LESSONS:
Spend time in prayer and fasting on the night of mid-Shaban.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith tells us that on the night of mid-Shaban Allah descends to the lowest heaven and calls out for those who need His help. He asks if there is anyone who needs forgiveness so that He can forgive them; if there is anyone who needs provision so that He can provide for them; and if there is anyone who is afflicted by trouble so that He can relieve them. This hadith encourages us to spend this special night in prayer and fasting as it will bring us closer to Allah and increase our chances of being forgiven or receiving His blessings. It also teaches us about Allah's mercy towards His creation as He continuously calls out for those in need even though they may not be aware of it.
