Sunan Ibn Majah 1366 (Book 5, Hadith 564) #30718
The Descent of Allah Every Night

SUMMARY: Allah descends every night and asks who will ask of Him, call upon Him, and ask for His forgiveness so that He may give, answer, and forgive them.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah said: "Our Lord, the Blessed and Exalted, descends when one third of the night remains, every night and He says: 'Who will ask of Me, that I may give him? Who will call upon Me, that I may answer him? Who will ask My forgiveness, that I may forgive him?’ until dawn comes". Hence they used to prefer voluntary prayers at the end of the night rather than at the beginning.

QUICK LESSONS:
Asking for help from God in times of need ; Calling upon God ; Seeking forgiveness from God ; Doing voluntary prayer at end of night insteadof beginning .

EXPLANATIONS:
Every night when one third of the night remains, Allah descends from the heavens to earth. He calls out asking who will ask something from Him so that He can give it to them. He also asks who will call upon Him so that He can answer their prayers. Lastly, Allah asks if anyone needs His forgiveness so that he may forgive them. This is why people prefer voluntary prayers at the end of the night rather than at the beginning as they believe this is when their prayers are more likely to be answered by Allah.
