Reciting at Night

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ was heard reciting at night by Umm Hani bint Abi Talib while she was on the roof of her house.

It was narrated that Umm Hani’ bint Abi Talib said: "I used to hear the Prophet reciting at night when I was on the roof of my house".
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، وَعَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، حَدَّثَنَا مِسْعَرٌ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَلاَءِ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ جَعْدَةَ، عَنْ أُمِّ هَانِئٍ بِنْتِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ، قَالَتْ كُنْتُ أَسْمَعُ قِرَاءَةَ النَّبِيِّ ـ ـ بِاللَّيْلِ وَأَنَا عَلَى عَرِيشِي

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the importance of reciting and reflecting upon the words of Allah during the night. It is narrated that Umm Hani bint Abi Talib heard the Prophet reciting when she was on her roof. This shows us that it is important to take time out of our day to reflect upon Allah's words and be mindful of His presence in our lives. We can learn from this hadith that we should make an effort to spend some time each day in prayer and contemplation so that we can stay connected with Allah and remember His teachings. Additionally, this hadith also teaches us about being mindful of our environment; even if we are not able to physically go outside or travel somewhere for spiritual reflection, we can still find ways to connect with Allah through prayer and contemplation in whatever space we are in.
