Concession for Not Praying on Fridays During Eid

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) granted a concession to not pray the Friday prayer when two Eid festivals fell on the same day.

It was narrated that Iyas bin Abi Ramlah Ash-Shami said: "I heard a man asking Zaid bin Arqam: 'Were you present with the Messenger of Allah when there were two 'Eid on one day?’ He said: 'Yes.’ He said: 'What did he do?’ He said: 'He prayed the 'Eid prayer, then he granted a concession not to pray the Friday, then he said: "Whoever wants to pray (Friday), let him do so".’"
حَدَّثَنَا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْجَهْضَمِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ، عَنْ إِيَاسِ بْنِ أَبِي رَمْلَةَ الشَّامِيِّ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَجُلاً، سَأَلَ زَيْدَ بْنَ أَرْقَمَ هَلْ شَهِدْتَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ـ ـ عِيدَيْنِ فِي يَوْمٍ قَالَ نَعَمْ ‏.‏ قَالَ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ يَصْنَعُ قَالَ صَلَّى الْعِيدَ ثُمَّ رَخَّصَ فِي الْجُمُعَةِ ثُمَّ قَالَ ‏ "‏ مَنْ شَاءَ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ فَلْيُصَلِّ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's concession to not pray the Friday prayer when two Eid festivals fell on the same day. It was narrated by Iyas bin Abi Ramlah Ash-Shami and Zaid bin Arqam that they heard a man asking Zaid if he was present with the Messenger of Allah when there were two Eids on one day. He said yes, and then explained that he prayed one of them, then granted a concession not to pray for Friday, but said whoever wanted to could still do so. This hadith teaches us that we should be flexible in our religious practices and take into account special circumstances such as holidays or other events which may require us to adjust our routine accordingly. It also shows us how important it is for Muslims to follow their faith while being mindful of their environment and community needs at all times.
