Celebrating the Signs of Allah

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) taught that the sun and moon eclipses are signs of Allah and should be celebrated with prayer.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Abbas: The Prophet said, "The sun and the moon are two signs amongst the Signs of Allah. They do not eclipse because of someone's death or life. So, if you see them (ie eclipse), celebrate the Praises of Allah (ie pray).
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي أُوَيْسٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي مَالِكٌ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ قَالَ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ‏ "‏ إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ، لاَ يَخْسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلاَ لِحَيَاتِهِ، فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ ذَلِكَ فَاذْكُرُوا اللَّهَ

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that the sun and moon eclipses are signs from Allah, which should be celebrated with prayer. He said that these eclipses do not occur because of someone's death or life, but rather they are a reminder from Allah to celebrate His greatness. We can show our appreciation for this sign by praising Him in prayer. This hadith teaches us to take time out of our day to appreciate the beauty and power of Allah's creations, as well as recognize His greatness in all aspects of life.
