Sahih al-Bukhari 309 (Book 6, Hadith 14) #306
Experiencing Bleeding During I'tikaf

SUMMARY: This hadith is about a wife of the Prophet (ﷺ) who was doing I'tikaf and experienced bleeding in between her periods.

Narrated 'Aisha: Once one of the wives of the Prophet did I'tikaf along with him and she was getting bleeding in between her periods. She used to see the blood (from her private parts) and she would perhaps put a dish under her for the blood. (The sub-narrator 'Ikrima added, 'Aisha once saw the liquid of safflower and said, "It looks like what so and so used to have")

QUICK LESSONS:
Take care of physical health and be mindful during spiritual retreats.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a wife of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ who was doing I'tikaf, which is an Islamic practice where one secludes themselves in a mosque for spiritual retreat. During this time, she experienced bleeding in between her periods. She would put a dish under her to collect the blood from her private parts. Aisha also noticed that the liquid looked similar to what another woman used to have. This hadith teaches us that even during times of spiritual retreat, it is important to take care of our physical health and be mindful of any changes or symptoms we may experience.
