Sunan Ibn Majah 1228 (Book 5, Hadith 426) #30580
The Prophet's Night Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to pray for a long time at night, both standing and sitting, and would bow in the same position he was praying in.

It was narrated that 'Abdullah bin Shaqiq Al-Uqaili said: "I asked 'Aishah about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah at night. She said: 'He used to pray for a long time at night standing up, and for a long time at night sitting down. If he prayed standing, he would bow standing, and if he prayed sitting, he would bow sitting.’"

QUICK LESSONS:
Consistently pray no matter what physical state you are in when starting your prayer session .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the importance of prayer during the night for Muslims. It is narrated that 'Abdullah bin Shaqiq Al-Uqaili asked 'Aishah about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah at night. She said that he used to pray for a long time at night standing up, and for a long time at night sitting down. If he prayed standing, he would bow standing, and if he prayed sitting, he would bow sitting. This shows us how important it is to be consistent with our prayers no matter what position we are in when we start them; whether it be standing or sitting we should always finish them in that same position by bowing down before Allah Almighty. It also teaches us how devoted our beloved Prophet Muhammad was to his prayers as He used to spend a lot of time praying during the nights even though He was already so busy with other matters related to His mission as Messenger of Allah Almighty on earth.
