Sunan Ibn Majah 1215 (Book 5, Hadith 413) #30567
The Importance of Prayer in Islam

SUMMARY: The Prophet (PBUH) was reminded of a Rakah he had forgotten to perform during the Asr prayer and he performed it afterwards.

It was narrated that 'Imran bin Husain said: "The Messenger of Allah said the Salam after three Rak’ah for 'Asr, then he stood up and went into the apartment. Khirbaq, a man with big hands, stood up and called out: 'O Messenger of Allah! Has the prayer been shortened?’ He came out angrily, dragging his lower garment, and asked about it, and was told (what had happened). So he performed the Rak’ah that he had omitted, then he said the Salam, then he prostrated twice and said the Salam again".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith highlights the importance of prayer in Islam. It is narrated that 'Imran bin Husain said that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) was performing his Asr prayer when Khirbaq, a man with big hands, asked if the prayer had been shortened. The Prophet then became angry and went back to perform the Rakah he had forgotten. He then prostrated twice before finishing his prayer and saying salam again. This incident shows us how important it is for Muslims to be mindful and attentive during their prayers, as even our beloved Prophet made mistakes sometimes! We should also take this opportunity to remember that we should always strive for perfection in our prayers, as this is one way we can show our love for Allah SWT.
