Praying Witr While Riding a Camel - An Example of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the example of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) who used to pray Witr while riding his camel.

It was narrated that Sa’eed bin Yasar said: "I was with Ibn 'Umar and I lagged behind and prayed Witr. He said: 'What kept you?’ I said: 'I was praying Witr.’ He said: 'Do you not have the best of examples in the Messenger of Allah ?’ I said: 'Of course.’ He said: 'The Messenger of Allah used to pray Witr while riding his camel.’"
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سِنَانٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ عُمَرَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ، قَالَ كُنْتُ مَعَ ابْنِ عُمَرَ فَتَخَلَّفْتُ فَأَوْتَرْتُ فَقَالَ مَا خَلَفَكَ قُلْتُ أَوْتَرْتُ ‏.‏ فَقَالَ أَمَا لَكَ فِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ـ ـ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ قُلْتُ بَلَى ‏.‏ قَالَ فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ـ ـ كَانَ يُوتِرُ عَلَى بَعِيرِهِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith narrates an incident between Saeed bin Yasar and Ibn 'Umar. Saeed bin Yasar lagged behind and prayed witr while Ibn 'Umar asked him why he was late. He replied that he was praying witr and then Ibn 'Umar reminded him of the best example which is Prophet Muhammad's example in this regard as he used to pray witr while riding his camel. This hadith teaches us that we should follow the footsteps of our beloved prophet in every aspect of life as it is the best way to live our lives according to Islam. We should also take lessons from his examples and try to implement them in our daily lives so that we can be successful both in this world and hereafter.
