Sunan Ibn Majah 1187 (Book 5, Hadith 385) #30539
The Benefits of Praying Witr at Night

SUMMARY: Praying Witr at the end of the night is better than praying it at the beginning.

It was narrated from Jabir that the Messenger of Allah said: "Whoever among you fears that he will not wake up at the end of the night, let him pray Witr at the beginning of the night, then go to sleep. Whoever hopes that he will wake up at the end of the night, let him pray Witr at the end of the night, for recitation (of the Qur’an) at the end of the night is attended (by the angels), and that is better".

QUICK LESSONS:
Take advantage of nights for worshiping Allah , Strive to stay awake late into the night .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith encourages Muslims to pray their witr prayer during the night, as it is more beneficial than praying it earlier in the evening. It was narrated by Jabir that Prophet Muhammad said that whoever fears they will not wake up in time for witr should pray it earlier in the night, and whoever hopes to stay awake until later should wait until then as reciting Quran during this time is attended by angels and thus more rewarding. This hadith teaches us that we should take advantage of our nights and use them for worshiping Allah through prayer and reciting Quran. We can also learn from this hadith that we should strive to stay awake late into the night so we can reap its rewards.
