Sunan Ibn Majah 1173 (Book 5, Hadith 371) #30525
Reciting Verses During Witr Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to recite certain verses from the Quran during his Witr prayer.

It was narrated that 'Abdul-'Aziz bin Juraij said: "We asked 'Aishah what the Messenger of Allah used to recite in Witr. She said: 'He used to recite: "Glorify the Name of your Lord the Most High," Al-A’la (87) in the first Rak’ah, 'Say: "O disbelievers!’" Al- Kafirun (109) in the second Rak’ah, and 'Say: Allah is One’ in the third and the Mu’awwidhatain (Chapter 113, 114).’"

QUICK LESSONS:
Recite Quranic Verses in Prayers; Seek Guidance through Prayers; Connect with God through Prayers.
EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was known for his devotion to Allah and his practice of reciting verses from the Quran during his prayers. During Witr, a special prayer that is performed at night, he would recite three specific verses from the Quran. These were “Glorify the Name of your Lord the Most High” [Al-Ala 87], “Say O disbelievers!” [Al-Kafirun 109], and “Say Allah is One” [Chapter 113, 114]. This shows us how important it is to recite verses from the Quran in our prayers as a way of connecting with Allah and seeking His guidance.
