Shortening Prayers During Travel

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) shortened the prayer to two Rakah when travelling from Madinah to Makkah and stayed there for ten days.

Yahya bin Abu Ishaq narrated that Anas said: "We went out with the Messenger of Allah from Al-Madinah to Makkah, during which time we shortened our prayer to two Rak’ah, until we came back". I asked: "How long did he stay in Makkah?" He said: "Ten (days)".
حَدَّثَنَا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْجَهْضَمِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ، وَعَبْدُ الأَعْلَى، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ: خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ـ ـ مِنَ الْمَدِينَةِ إِلَى مَكَّةَ. فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ، حَتَّى رَجَعْنَا ‏.‏ قُلْتُ: كَمْ أَقَامَ بِمَكَّةَ؟ قَالَ: عَشْرًا

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's journey from Madinah to Makkah. During this journey, he shortened his prayer from four Rakahs to two Rakahs. This is known as Qasr or shortening of prayers while travelling. It is a Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad that Muslims should follow when they are on a journey and it is permissible in Islam. The purpose of this practice is so that Muslims can travel with ease and not be burdened by long prayers during their travels. Additionally, it also serves as a reminder for Muslims to be mindful of their obligations even while travelling and not forget about them completely.
