Sunan Ibn Majah 991 (Book 5, Hadith 189) #30343
Consideration for Mothers

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) would shorten his prayers when he heard an infant crying, out of consideration for the mother.

It was narrated from 'Abdullah bin Abu Qatadah that his father said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'I get up to perform prayer and I intend to make it long, but then I hear an infant crying, so I make it short, because I do not like to cause distress to his mother.’"

QUICK LESSONS:
Be considerate towards others in your actions.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the importance of considering others in our actions. The Prophet Muhammad was known for his kindness and compassion, and this hadith is a perfect example of that. He was so considerate that even when he was in prayer, if he heard an infant crying, he would shorten his prayer out of consideration for the mother who may be distressed by her child's cries. This teaches us to always think about how our actions may affect those around us and to be kind and compassionate towards others.
