Sunan Ibn Majah 962 (Book 5, Hadith 160) #30314
Following the Prophet's Movements in Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) instructed his followers to follow his movements in prayer, and not to precede him.

It was narrated that Abu Musa said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'I have gained weight, so when I bow, then bow, and when I stand up, then stand up, and when I prostrate, then prostrate. I should never find anyone preceding me in bowing or prostration.’"

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow your Imam/leader's movements during prayers

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Abu Musa tells us that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) instructed his followers to follow his movements in prayer. He said that when he bows, they should bow too, when he stands up they should stand up as well, and when he prostrates they should also prostrate. This is a reminder for us to be mindful of our actions during prayer and not rush ahead of the Imam or leader of prayer. We must remember that we are all equal before Allah and no one is better than another. We must also remember that we are following the example set by our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

The hadith also teaches us about humility and respect for others. By following the example set by our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) we can learn how to show humility towards each other even during times of worship. This is an important lesson for all Muslims as it reminds us that no matter what our differences may be, we can still come together in unity through worshiping Allah together with respect for each other’s beliefs and practices.
