Sunan Ibn Majah 923 (Book 5, Hadith 121) #30275
Betrayal in Prayer

SUMMARY: It is not permissible to lead a prayer and then only supplicate for oneself, as this would be considered a betrayal of those who were prayed for.

It was narrated that Thawban said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'No person should lead others in prayer, then supplicate only for himself and not for them. If he does that, he has betrayed them.’"

QUICK LESSONS:
Include supplication for all those present in the congregation when leading prayers or engaging in any other activity which involves multiple people .

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Thawban states that it is not permissible to lead a prayer and then only supplicate for oneself. This means that when leading the prayer, one should make sure to include supplication for all those present in the congregation. To do otherwise would be considered a betrayal of those who were prayed for. This hadith teaches us the importance of being considerate and mindful of others when we are leading prayers or engaging in any other activity which involves multiple people. We should always strive to ensure that everyone's needs are taken into account and no one is left out or neglected. Furthermore, this hadith also serves as an important reminder about the consequences of betraying others; it can have serious repercussions on our relationships with them and can even damage our reputation among them if we are not careful.
