Gift Giving and Peace Treaty

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) was given a white mule and a cloak as a gift during the Ghazwa of Tabuk, and he wrote a peace treaty allowing the king of Aylah to keep authority over his country.

Narrated Abu Humaid As-Saidi: We accompanied the Prophet in the Ghazwa of Tabuk and the king of Aylah presented a white mule and a cloak as a gift to the Prophet. And the Prophet wrote to him a peace treaty allowing him to keep authority over his country.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be generous when giving gifts; Strive for peaceful resolutions whenever possible .

EXPLANATIONS:
During the Ghazwa of Tabuk, which was an expedition led by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in 630 CE to confront the Byzantine army in Syria, the king of Aylah presented him with a white mule and a cloak as gifts. In return for these gifts, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ wrote him a peace treaty that allowed him to keep authority over his country. This hadith teaches us about how important it is to be generous when giving gifts and also how important it is to make peace with others instead of engaging in conflict. It also shows us that even though we may have differences with others or disagree on certain matters, we should still strive for peaceful resolutions whenever possible.
