Sunan Ibn Majah 792 (Book 4, Hadith 58) #30144
No Exemption from Prayer in Mosque

SUMMARY: The Prophet (PBUH) granted no concession to a blind man who asked for an exemption from attending the mosque for prayer, as he was able to hear the call.

It was narrated that Ibn Umm Maktum said: "I said to the Prophet: 'I am an old man and blind; my house is far away, and I have no one to lead me. Is there any concession (for me not to have to attend the prayer in the mosque)?' He said: 'Can you hear the call?' I said: 'Yes'. He said: 'Then I do not find any concession for you'."

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of attending prayers in mosques. It was narrated by Ibn Umm Maktum that he asked the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ if there could be any concession given to him due to his old age and blindness, as his house was far away and he had no one to lead him. The Prophet ﷺ replied that since he could hear the call of prayer, there would be no exemption given for him. This hadith teaches us that we should not miss our prayers even if it is difficult or inconvenient for us, as it is an obligation upon every Muslim. We should make sure we attend our prayers in mosques regularly and on time so that we can reap its rewards both in this world and hereafter.
