Building Mosques in Villages

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad commanded that mosques be built in villages, and that they be kept clean and fragrant.

It was narrated from 'Aishah that: The Messenger of Allah commanded that mosque to be built in (Ad-Dur) villages, and that they be purified and perfumed.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ بِشْرِ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ، وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ الأَزْهَرِ، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ سُعَيْرٍ، أَنْبَأَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ـ ـ أَمَرَ بِالْمَسَاجِدِ أَنْ تُبْنَى فِي الدُّورِ وَأَنْ تُطَهَّرَ وَتُطَيَّبَ

It is also a reminder for us to use incense or other fragrances when we pray so that our prayers are more meaningful. By doing this we can create an atmosphere of peace and tranquility which will help us focus on our prayers better. Furthermore, it teaches us the importance of taking care of our environment by keeping it clean and free from bad odors or smells which can be distracting during prayer time.
