Giving and Returning Favors

SUMMARY: The Prophet (PBUH) used to accept gifts from people, but after he conquered Bani Quraiza and Bani An-Nadir, he started returning their favors.

People used to give some of their datepalms to the Prophet (as a gift), till he conquered Bani Quraiza and Bani An-Nadir, whereupon he started returning their favors.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be generous with others by giving them gifts or favors when they need it; Return those favors when you are able; Build strong relationships with others; Show your appreciation for what they have done for you.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of giving and returning favors. It is narrated that people used to give some of their datepalms as a gift to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). After he conquered two tribes, namely Bani Quraiza and Bani An-Nadir, he started returning their favors. This shows us that it is important to be generous with others by giving them gifts or favors when they need it. However, we should also remember to return those favors when we are able. Doing so will help us build strong relationships with others and show our appreciation for what they have done for us.
