This hadith narrates an incident where the Prophet Muhammad went out to relieve himself and was followed by Mughirah bin Shu'bah with a vessel of water. After he finished relieving himself, he performed ablution and wiped over his leather socks. This hadith teaches us that when performing ablutions for prayer, it is permissible to wipe over one's leather socks instead of washing them each time. It also teaches us that we should be mindful of our actions even when we are alone as the Prophet Muhammad was being watched by Mughirah while he was relieving himself. Furthermore, this hadith shows us how important it is to follow Islamic teachings in all aspects of life as even something as mundane as going to the bathroom can be done according to Islamic teachings if one wishes so.
