Sunan Ibn Majah 470 (Book 1, Hadith 204) #29822
The Reward of Reciting the Shahada

SUMMARY: This hadith explains that if a Muslim performs ablution and recites the shahada, they will be rewarded with entrance into Paradise.

It was narrated that 'Umar bin Khattab said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'There is no Muslim who performs ablution and does it well, then says: Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa rasuluhu (I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger),' (except that) eight gates of Paradise will be opened for him, and he will enter through whichever one he wants'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Perform ablution correctly and recite the shahada faithfully.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that if a Muslim performs ablution and recites the shahada - which is an Islamic declaration of faith - they will be rewarded with entrance into Paradise. The shahada is composed of two parts; firstly, “Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah” which translates to “I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah” and secondly “wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa rasuluhu” which translates to “and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.” If a Muslim says this statement while performing wudu correctly then eight gates of paradise will open for them so they can enter whichever one they choose. This hadith teaches us about the importance of faith in Islam as well as how important it is to perform wudu correctly in order to receive rewards from Allah.
