Necessity of Ablution and Mentioning Allah's Name

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that ablution is necessary for prayer and one must mention the name of Allah before performing ablution.

It was narrated that Abu Sa'eed bin Zaid said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'There is no prayer for one who does not have ablution, and there is no ablution for one who does not mention the Name of Allah (before it)'."
حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْخَلاَّلُ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، أَنْبَأَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ عِيَاضٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو ثِفَالٍ، عَنْ رَبَاحِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَدَّتَهُ بِنْتَ سَعِيدِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، تَذْكُرُ أَنَّهَا سَمِعَتْ أَبَاهَا، سَعِيدَ بْنَ زَيْدٍ يَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ ـ ‏ "‏ لاَ صَلاَةَ لِمَنْ لاَ وُضُوءَ لَهُ وَلاَ وُضُوءَ لِمَنْ لَمْ يَذْكُرِ اسْمَ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ

EXPLANATIONS:
According to the hadith narrated by Abu Sa'eed bin Zaid, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that prayer cannot be performed without ablution, and one must mention the name of Allah before performing ablution. This hadith emphasizes on the importance of cleanliness in Islam as well as remembering God’s name at all times. It also teaches us to be mindful when we are about to perform any religious act such as prayer or ablutions.
