Ten Things Connected to Fitrah

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught us about the ten things that are connected to the Fitrah, which includes trimming the mustache, letting the beard grow, using a tooth stick, rinsing out nostrils and mouth with water, clipping nails, washing joints and armpit hairs and shaving pubic hairs.

It was narrated that 'Aishah said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'Ten things are connected to the Fitrah: trimming the mustache, letting the beard grow, using the tooth stick, rinsing out the nostrils with water, clipping the nails, washing the joints, plucking the armpit hairs, shaving the pubic hairs, washing the private parts with water'."(One of the narrators) Zakariyya said: "Mus'ab said: 'I have forgotten the tenth thing, but it may have been rinsing out the mouth'."

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about ten things that are connected to fitrah. Fitrah is an Arabic term meaning natural disposition; it refers to our instinctive nature as humans. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that these ten things are part of our fitrah and should be done regularly in order for us to stay healthy and clean. These include trimming one's mustache, letting one's beard grow naturally without shaving it off completely, using a tooth stick for cleaning teeth after meals instead of brushing them with a brush and toothpaste; rinsing out nostrils with water after blowing them; clipping nails regularly; washing joints such as elbows and knees; plucking armpit hairs if they become too long; shaving pubic hairs if they become too long as well; washing private parts with water after going to the bathroom. Additionally he also mentioned rinsing out one's mouth with water but this was not included in his original list of ten things connected to fitrah but rather added later on by another narrator who heard it from someone else who heard it from him ﷺ himself. This hadith teaches us about taking care of ourselves in order for us stay healthy both physically and spiritually according to Islamic teachings.
