Sunan Ibn Majah 270 (Book 1, Hadith 4) #29622
Sufficiency in Ablution and Bathing

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad taught that a mudd (a unit of measurement) is enough for ablution and a sa' (another unit of measurement) is enough for bathing.

'Abdullah bin Muhammed bin 'Aqil bin Abu Talib narrated from his father that his grandfather said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'A Mudd is sufficient for the ablution and a Sa' is sufficient for the bath'. A man said: 'It is not sufficient for us'." He (the narrator) said: "It was sufficient for one who is better than you and had more hair" meaning the Prophet.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be content with what you have
EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith teaches us the importance of being content with what we have. It was narrated by Abdullah bin Muhammed bin 'Aqil bin Abu Talib from his father that his grandfather said the Prophet Muhammad said that a mudd is sufficient for ablution and a sa' is sufficient for bathing. When someone questioned if it was enough, the Prophet replied that it was sufficient even though he himself had more hair than them. This shows us how important it is to be content with what we have and not to overspend or waste resources unnecessarily. We should also remember to be grateful for all our blessings, no matter how small they may seem.
