Jami at-Tirmidhi 3920 (Book 49, Hadith 320) #29582
The Purifying Nature of Madinah

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) refused to take back the pledge of a Bedouin who was afflicted by sickness in Madinah, and instead compared Madinah to bellows that expels its filth and purifies its good.

Narrated Jabir: that a Bedouin gave the pledge to the Messenger of Allah for Islam, then he was afflicted by the sickness in Al-Madinah. So the Bedouin went to the Messenger of Allah and said: "Take back my pledge". But the Messenger of Allah refused. Then the Bedouin left and came back and said: "Take back my pledge," and he refused. Then the Messenger of Allah said: "Al-Madinah is but like bellows, it expels its filth and purifies its good".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the purifying nature of Madinah. It tells us that even though there may be sickness or other difficulties in the city, it still has a purifying effect on those who live there. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) refused to take back the pledge of a Bedouin who was afflicted by sickness in Madinah, and instead compared it to bellows that expels its filth and purifies its good. This teaches us that we should not give up on our faith or our commitments just because we are going through difficult times; rather, we should strive to remain steadfast even when faced with adversity. Furthermore, this hadith also highlights the importance of living in an environment where one can practice their faith without fear or judgement from others.
