Focusing on the Life of the Hereafter

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was digging a trench and passed by his companions, encouraging them to focus on the life of the Hereafter and asking Allah to forgive the Ansar and Emigrants.

Narrated Sahl bin Sa'd: "We were with the Messenger of Allah while he was excavating the trench, and we were transporting the soil. He passed by us and said: 'O Allah! There is no life but the life of the Hereafter! So forgive the Ansar and the Emigrants'."

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about focusing on life after death, or what is known as Akhirah in Arabic. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was digging a trench with his companions when he passed by them and reminded them that there is no life but that of the hereafter. He also asked Allah to forgive both Ansar, which refers to those who helped him in Medina when he migrated from Mecca, as well as Emigrants, which refers to those who left their homes in Mecca for Medina with him. This hadith teaches us that we should always be mindful of our actions here on earth because they will determine our fate in Akhirah. We should also strive for forgiveness from Allah through prayer and good deeds so that we can be rewarded in Akhirah.
