Supplication for Knowledge and Understanding

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad supplicated to Allah to give Ibn Abbas knowledge and understanding of the Quran.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: "The Messenger of Allah supplicated for me that Allah should give me Al-Hukm (knowledge, understanding, judging justly, or understanding of the Qur'an) two times".
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ الْمُكْتِبُ الْمُؤَدِّبُ، قَال حَدَّثَنَا الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ الْمُزَنِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ أَبِي سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ دَعَا لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ أَنْ يُؤْتِيَنِي اللَّهُ الْحِكْمَةَ مَرَّتَيْنِ ‏.‏ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ مِنْ حَدِيثِ عَطَاءٍ ‏.‏ وَقَدْ رَوَاهُ عِكْرِمَةُ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ

This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's supplication for his companion, Ibn Abbas. The Prophet asked Allah to grant him knowledge and understanding of the Quran. This hadith teaches us that we should always ask Allah for guidance in our lives, especially when it comes to learning about His teachings in the Quran. We should also be humble enough to ask others for help when we need it, as this is a sign of strength rather than weakness. Furthermore, this hadith shows us that even though we may not understand something right away, if we keep asking Allah for help He will eventually grant us what we seek.
