Taking the Qur'an from Four People

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) advised to take the Qur'an from four people.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Amr: that the Messenger of Allah said: "Take the Qur'an from four: From Ibn Mas'ud, Ubayy bin Ka'b, Mu'adh bin Jabal, and Salim the freed slave of Abu Hudhaifah".
حَدَّثَنَا هَنَّادٌ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ شَقِيقِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ "‏ خُذُوا الْقُرْآنَ مِنْ أَرْبَعَةٍ مِنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ وَأُبَىِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ وَمُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ وَسَالِمٍ مَوْلَى أَبِي حُذَيْفَةَ ‏"‏ ‏. هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ

Take guidance from those who are knowledgeable about Quran ; Seek out teachers who can help us understand its teachings ; Strive to become knowledgeable ourselves ; Pass on this knowledge to others in our community as well as future generations .

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, advised his followers to take the Quran from four people in particular. These were Ibn Mas’ud, Ubayy bin Ka’b, Mu’adh bin Jabal and Salim the freed slave of Abu Hudhaifah. This hadith is a reminder for us to learn and understand the Quran with guidance from those who are knowledgeable about it and have studied it deeply. It is important that we seek out teachers who can help us understand its teachings so that we can live our lives according to its principles and values. We should also strive to become knowledgeable ourselves so that we can pass on this knowledge to others in our community as well as future generations.
