The Beloved Companions of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) had a special fondness for Abu Bakr, Umar and Abu Ubaidah bin Al-Jarrah.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin Shaqiq: "I said to 'Aishah: 'Which of the companions of the Prophet SAW were the most beloved to him?' She said: 'Abu Bakr'. I said: 'Then who?' She said ' 'Umar'. I said: 'Then who?' She said: 'Then Abu 'Ubaidah bin Al-Jarrah'." He said: I said: 'Then who?'" He said: "Then she was silent".
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الدَّوْرَقِيُّ أخبرنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنِ الْجُرَيْرِيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ابْنِ شَقِيقٍ، قَالَ قُلْتُ لِعَائِشَةَ أَىُّ أَصْحَابِ انَّبِيِّ كَانَ أَحَبَّ إِليه؟ قَالَتْ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ‏.‏ قُلْتُ ثُمَّ مَنْ؟ قَالَتْ ثُمَّ عُمَرُ ‏.‏ قُلْتُ ثُمَّ مَنْ؟ قَالَتْ ثُمَّ أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ بْنُ الْجَرَّاحِ ‏.‏ قُلْتُ ثُمَّ مَنْ؟ فَسَكَتَتْ.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the companions of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). It was narrated by Abdullah bin Shaqiq who asked Aishah which companions were most beloved to the prophet. She replied that it was Abu Bakr, then Umar, then Abu Ubaidah bin Al-Jarrah. After this she became silent, indicating that these three were especially close to him. This hadith teaches us that we should strive to be close to Allah's Messenger and follow his teachings in order to gain His pleasure and love. We should also remember those who were closest to him as an example of how we can become closer ourselves.
