Fulfilling Vows

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) praised Talhah for fulfilling his vow.

Narrated Musa bin Talhah: "I entered upon Mu'awiyah and he said: 'Shall I not give you some good news?' I said: 'Of course!' He said: 'I heard the Messenger of Allah saying: 'Talhah is among those who fulfilled their vow (referring to 33:23)'."
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْقُدُّوسِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْعَطَّارُ الْبَصْرِيُّ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَاصِمٍ، عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ يَحْيَى بْنِ طَلْحَةَ، عَنْ عَمِّهِ، مُوسَى بْنِ طَلْحَةَ قَالَ دَخَلْتُ عَلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ فَقَالَ أَلاَ أُبَشِّرُكَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ يَقُولُ ‏ "‏ طَلْحَةُ مِمَّنْ قَضَى نَحْبَهُ ‏"‏ ‏.‏هَذَا حَدِيثٌ غَرِيبٌ لاَ نَعْرِفُهُ مِنْ حَدِيثِ مُعَاوِيَةَ إِلاَّ مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of fulfilling one's promises and pledges. It was narrated by Musa bin Talhah who said that he visited Mu'awiyah and was told some good news. Mu'awiyah said that he heard the Prophet Muhammad say that Talhah fulfilled his vow. This hadith teaches us to be honest in our words and to fulfill our promises no matter how difficult it may be. We should strive to keep our word even if it means sacrificing something we value or going out of our way to do something for someone else. By doing so, we will earn the pleasure of Allah and gain His rewards in this life and the hereafter.
