QUICK LESSONS:
Return any lost property you find to its rightful owner

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about returning lost property. It was narrated by Nafi', who said that once a slave of Ibn 'Umar fled and joined the Byzantine, but Khalid bin Al-Walid got him back and returned him to 'Abdullah. Similarly, once a horse of Ibn 'Umar also ran away and followed the Byzantines, but Khalid got it back and returned it to Abdullah as well. This hadith teaches us that we should return any lost property we find to its rightful owner. We should not keep it for ourselves or give it away as charity because this is considered stealing in Islam. We must be honest in our dealings with others so that we can maintain good relationships with them. Furthermore, this hadith also shows us the importance of being generous towards those who are less fortunate than us; even though he was wealthy himself, Khalid still took time out of his day to help someone else get their property back from an enemy country!
