The Power of Repentance and Forgiveness

SUMMARY: Repentance and seeking forgiveness from Allah will be accepted even if one has fled from battle.

Bilal bin Yasar bin Zaid the freed slave of the Prophet narrated: "My father narrated to me, from my grandfather, that he heard the Prophet say: 'Whoever says: "I seek forgiveness from Allah, the Magnificent, whom there is none worthy of worship but Him, the Living, Al-Qayyum, and I repent to him," (Astaghfirullahal-'Aẓim alladhi la ilaha illa huwal-Ḥayyul-Qayyumu wa atubu ilaih) then Allah will forgive him, even if he fled from battle.’"

QUICK LESSONS:
Seek repentance and ask for God's mercy sincerely

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the power of repentance and forgiveness in Islam. It is narrated by Bilal bin Yasar bin Zaid, who was a freed slave of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The hadith states that whoever says "Astaghfirullahal-'A?im alladhi la ilaha illa huwal-?ayyul-Qayyumu wa atubu ilaih" which translates to "I seek forgiveness from Allah, the Magnificent, whom there is none worthy of worship but Him, the Living, Al-Qayyum, and I repent to him," then Allah will forgive them even if they have fled from battle. This hadith teaches us that no matter what we have done wrong or how bad our sins are, we can always turn back to Allah for repentance and He will forgive us for our mistakes. It also shows us that it is never too late to ask for His mercy as long as we are sincere in our repentance.
