The Power of Prayer

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the power of prayer and how it can help us to be independent from all those besides Allah.

Ali may Allah be pleased with him narrated: that a Mukatib came to him and said: "Indeed I am not capable of my Kitabah so aid me". He said: "Should I not teach you words that the Messenger of Allah taught me? If you had a debt upon you similar to the mountain of Sir, Allah would fulfill it for you. He said: 'Say: O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful against Your prohibited, and make me independent of all those besides You (Allahummakfini biḥalalika 'an ḥaramika, wa aghnini bi faḍlika 'amman siwaka).’"

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the power of prayer and how it can help us to become independent from all those besides Allah. Ali [may Allah be pleased with him] narrated that a Mukatib came to him asking for help in his Kitabah, so he taught him words that the Messenger of Allah taught him. He said if one has a debt similar to the mountain of Sir, then they should say “O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful against Your prohibited, and make me independent of all those besides You”. Through this prayer we are asking for guidance on what is lawful and prohibited according to Islam as well as independence from anyone else other than God. This teaches us that through our faith in God we can achieve anything no matter how difficult it may seem.
