Seeking Forgiveness Through Recitation

SUMMARY: The Prophet (PBUH) struck a tree with his staff and made the leaves fall, then he taught us to recite certain phrases to ask Allah for forgiveness.

Anas bin Malik narrated that: the Prophet passed by a tree with dry leaves, so he struck it with his staff, making the leaves fall. Then he said: "Indeed, 'all praise is due to Allah, (Al-Ḥamdulillah)’ 'glory to Allah, (Subḥan Allah)’ 'none has the right to be worshipped by Allah, (La Ilaha Illallah)’ and 'Allah is the greatest (Allahu Akbar)’ cause the sins to fall from the worshipper, just as the leaves of this tree fall".

QUICK LESSONS:
Seek forgiveness through reciting certain phrases such as "Al-Hamdulillah", "SubhanAllah", "La Ilaha Illallah" & "Allahu Akbar".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us that we should always seek forgiveness from Allah by reciting certain phrases. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) struck a tree with his staff and made the leaves fall as an example of how our sins can be forgiven if we sincerely repent and ask for Allah's mercy. He then taught us four phrases which are “All praise is due to Allah”(Al-?amdulillah); “Glory to Allah”(Sub?an Allah); “None has the right to be worshipped by Allah”(La Ilaha Illallah); and “Allah is the greatest”(Allahu Akbar). These phrases are known as tahlil in Arabic which means glorifying or praising God. By reciting these words regularly we can ask for forgiveness from our Lord and hope that He will forgive us for our sins. We should also remember that repentance must come from within ourselves; it is not enough just to recite these words without feeling remorseful about our wrongdoings.
