EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the power of supplicating to Allah for forgiveness and mercy. It was narrated by Abdullah bin 'Amr from Abu Bakr As-Siddiq, who asked the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to teach him a supplication that he could use in his salat. The Prophet then taught him a du'a, which translates as "O Allah, I have wronged myself much, and none forgives sins except You. So forgive me with forgiveness from You, and have mercy upon me, indeed, You are the Forgiving, the Merciful." Through this du'a we can ask Allah for maghfirah or forgiveness as well as rahmah or mercy. We must remember that only He can forgive us our sins so it is important to turn to Him in prayer when we need His help. By doing so we can receive His blessings and guidance in our lives.
