Jami at-Tirmidhi 3329 (Book 47, Hadith 381) #28978
Memorizing the Quran with Patience

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) reciting the Quran and how Allah revealed to him not to move his tongue too quickly in order to memorize it.

Ibn Abbas said: "When the Quran was being revealed to the Messenger of Allah, he would move his tongue in attempt to memorize it. So Allah, Blessed is He and Most High, revealed: Move not your tongue concerning it to make haste therewith". He said: "So he would move his two lips". And Sufyan (a sub-narrator) would move his two lips.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the importance of patience when it comes to memorizing and reciting the Quran. It was narrated by Ibn Abbas that when Prophet Muhammad was receiving revelation from Allah, he would move his tongue in an attempt to memorize it. In response, Allah revealed a verse telling him not to rush himself in doing so. This teaches us that we should take our time when learning and understanding something new as rushing can lead us astray or cause us confusion. We should also be patient with ourselves as we learn and understand new things; this will help us gain a better understanding of what we are learning or trying to comprehend.
