The Argument About Qadar

SUMMARY: This hadith explains how the idolaters of the Quraish argued with the Messenger of Allah about Qadar, and how Allah revealed verses to them in response.

Narrated Abu Hurairah: "The idolaters of the Quraish came to the Messenger of Allah arguing about Qadar, so the following was revealed: The day they will be dragged on their faces into the Fire. Taste you the touch of Hell! Verily, We have created all things with Qadar (54:48 & 49)".

QUICK LESSONS:
Believe in destiny/qadr as determined by God; Follow His commands; Be accountable for your actions; Accept your fate as it is determined by God

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about an argument between the idolaters of the Quraish and the Messenger of Allah regarding destiny, or qadar. The idolaters believed that they were in control of their own destiny, while Prophet Muhammad taught that everything was predetermined by God. In response to this argument, Allah revealed two verses from Surat Al-Qamar which warned them about being dragged into Hellfire on Judgment Day if they did not believe in qadar. These verses also reminded them that God has created all things with a predetermined fate. This hadith teaches us that we should accept our fate as it is determined by God and not try to change it ourselves. We should also remember that we will be held accountable for our actions on Judgment Day and will be punished if we do not believe in qadar or follow His commands.
