Witnessing a Miracle

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) asked his companions to witness a miraculous event of the moon being split in two.

Narrated Ibn Mas'ud: "The moon was cleft asunder during the time of the Messenger of Allah , so the Prophet said to us: 'Bear witness'."
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي مَعْمَرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، قَالَ انْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ لَنَا النَّبِيُّ ‏ "‏ اشْهَدُوا ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the miraculous event of the moon being split in two during the time of Prophet Muhammad's life. The Prophet asked his companions to bear witness to this miracle as it was an extraordinary occurrence that could not be explained by natural means. This hadith teaches us that we should always be ready to bear witness and testify when something extraordinary happens and we should never doubt or deny such occurrences even if they are beyond our understanding. It also teaches us that miracles do happen and can be witnessed by people who are present at the time.
