The Power of La Ilaha Illallah

SUMMARY: This hadith explains that the phrase "La Ilaha Illallah" is an expression of Taqwa (God-consciousness).

Narrated At-Tufail bin Ubayy bin Ka'b: from his father, from the Prophet (regarding this Ayah): 'And made them stick to the word of Taqwa (48:26)'. He said (the word is): "La Ilaha Illallah".
حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ قَزْعَةَ الْبَصْرِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ حَبِيبٍ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ ثُوَيْرٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنِ الطُّفَيْلِ بْنِ أُبَىِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ َ ‏:‏ ‏(‏ وألْزَمَهُمْ كَلِمَةَ التَّقْوَى ‏)‏ قَالَ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ ‏.‏ قَالَ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ غَرِيبٌ لاَ نَعْرِفُهُ مَرْفُوعًا إِلاَّ مِنْ حَدِيثِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ قَزْعَةَ قَالَ وَسَأَلْتُ أَبَا زُرْعَةَ عَنْ هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ فَلَمْ يَعْرِفْهُ مَرْفُوعًا إِلاَّ مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ
