Jami at-Tirmidhi 3138 (Book 47, Hadith 190) #28787
The Triumph of Truth Over Falsehood

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) entered Makkah and destroyed the idols around the Ka'bah, proclaiming that truth has come and falsehood has vanished.

Narrated Ibn Mas'ud: "The Messenger of Allah entered Makkah during the year of the Conquest, and there were three hundred and sixty nusuban (Altars to sacrifice to idols) around the Ka'bah. So the Prophet started hitting them with a stick he had in his hand" - or perhaps he said: "With a piece of wood, and he was saying: The truth has come and falsehood has vanished. Surely falsehood is ever bound to vanish (17:81). The truth has come and falsehood can neither originate anything nor resurrect (anything) (34:49)".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith narrates an event from the life of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ when he entered Makkah during the year of its conquest. At that time, there were three hundred and sixty nusuban or altars to sacrifice to idols around the Ka’bah. In response, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ started hitting them with a stick or piece of wood in his hand while reciting verses from Surah Al-Israa’ and Surah Saba’ which proclaim that truth has come and falsehood can neither originate anything nor resurrect anything. This hadith teaches us about the triumph of truth over falsehood as well as how we should respond to false beliefs in our lives.
