Jami at-Tirmidhi 3110 (Book 47, Hadith 162) #28759
Allah's Mercy and Punishment

SUMMARY: Allah gives wrong-doers respite until He seizes them and they cannot escape.

Narrated Abu Musa: that the Messenger of Allah said: "Indeed Allah Blessed and Most High gives respite (Yumli)" and perhaps he said: "(Yumhil)" respite to the wrong-doer until, when He seizes him, and he cannot escape". Then he recited the Ayah: Such is the punishment of your Lord when He seizes the towns while they are doing wrong (11:102).

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the mercy of Allah, as He gives wrong-doers respite until He seizes them. The hadith is referring to a verse in the Quran, which states that when towns are doing wrong, Allah will seize them and they will not be able to escape His punishment. This teaches us that although Allah is merciful, He will still punish those who do wrong. We should take this lesson to heart and strive to do good deeds so that we can avoid His punishment.
