Sahih al-Bukhari 3006 (Book 56, Hadith 215) #2875
Traveling With A Muhram

SUMMARY: It is not permissible for a man to be alone with a woman, and no lady should travel except with her husband or someone she cannot marry.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: That he heard the Prophet saying, "It is not permissible for a man to be alone with a woman, and no lady should travel except with a Muhram (ie her husband or a person whom she cannot marry in any case for ever; eg her father, brother, etc)". Then a man got up and said, "O Allah's Messenger ! I have enlisted in the army for such-and-such Ghazwa and my wife is proceeding for Hajj". Allah's Messenger said, "Go, and perform the Hajj with your wife".

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow Islamic rulings regarding travelling & companionship between men & women

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains the Islamic ruling on traveling and companionship between men and women. According to this hadith, it is not permissible for a man to be alone with a woman, and no lady should travel except with her husband or someone she cannot marry in any case for ever; such as her father, brother etc. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ also gave an exception in this case when he allowed a man who was enlisted in the army to go on Hajj pilgrimage with his wife. This shows that there are exceptions to every rule but it is important that we follow the general guidelines of Islam when it comes to traveling and companionship between men and women.
