The Symbols of Allah

SUMMARY: Allah revealed that As-Safa and Al-Marwah are symbols of Allah, and it is not a sin for those who perform Hajj or 'Umrah to the house to go between them.

Narrated 'Asim Al-Ahwal: "I asked Anas bin Malik about As-Safa and Al-Marwah, and he said: 'They were among the rites of Jahiliyyah'. He said: 'So during Islam, we refrained from them, then Allah, Blessed and Most High, revealed: Indeed As-Safa and Al-Marwah are of the symbols of Allah. So it is not a sin for those who perform Hajj or 'Umrah to the house to go between them. (2:158)' He said: 'So it is voluntarily then verily, Allah is the All-Recognizer, the All-Knowing. (2:158)'"

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow what Allah has commanded , Be open minded about new things

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains the importance of two places called As-Safa and Al Marwah which are located in Makkah. These two places were part of the rituals during Jahiliyyah, but when Islam came, people refrained from going there. However, later on Allah revealed that these two places are symbols of Him and it is not a sin for those who perform Hajj or 'Umrah to go between them. This shows us how important it is to follow what Allah has commanded us even if we don't understand why at first. It also teaches us that we should always be open minded about new things because sometimes they can be beneficial for us in ways we don't expect.
