Sahih al-Bukhari 2991 (Book 56, Hadith 200) #2860
Forbidden to Eat Donkey's Meat

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) announced that Allah and His Apostle forbid the eating of donkey's meat when they reached Khaibar.

Narrated Anas: The Prophet reached Khaibar in the morning, while the people were coming out carrying their spades over their shoulders. When they saw him they said, "This is Muhammad and his army! Muhammad and his army!" So, they took refuge in the fort. The Prophet raised both his hands and said, "Allahu Akbar, Khaibar is ruined, for when we approach a nation (ie enemy to fight) then miserable is the morning of the warned ones". Then we found some donkeys which we (killed and) cooked: The announcer of the Prophet announced: "Allah and His Apostle forbid you to eat donkey's meat". So, all the pots including their contents were turned upside down.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's journey to Khaibar. When the people of Khaibar saw him and his army, they took refuge in a fort. The Prophet then raised his hands and said "Allahu Akbar, Khaibar is ruined". After this, some donkeys were found which were cooked but then the announcer of the Prophet announced that Allah and His Apostle forbid them from eating donkey's meat so all pots with their contents were turned upside down. This hadith teaches us that we should always obey Allah and His Messenger even if it means giving up something we want or like. We should also be mindful of our actions as it can have consequences for ourselves as well as others around us. It also shows us how important it is to follow instructions given by those in authority over us such as parents or teachers.
