Rights to Riding Beasts

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ taught that the owner of a beast has more right to ride it than anyone else, unless they allot it for someone else.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin Buraidah: "I heard my father Buraidah saying: 'I was walking with the Prophet when a man came to him with a donkey, so he said: "O Messenger of Allah! Ride" and the man moved toward the back. The Messenger of Allah said: "No, you have more right to the front of your beast, unless you allot it for me". He said: "I have allotted it for you'." He said: 'So he rode'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Offer your possessions or services if you can; accept offers from others when given in kindness and generosity; respect other people's rights over their possessions or services.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the rights of riding beasts. It was narrated by Abdullah bin Buraidah, who heard his father say that he was walking with the Prophet when a man came with a donkey and offered it for him to ride. The Prophet said that the owner of the beast has more right to ride it than anyone else, unless they allot it for someone else. This teaches us that we should be generous and offer our possessions or services if we can, even if we have more right over them than others do. We should also be humble and accept offers from others when given in kindness and generosity.
