Sahih al-Bukhari 2970 (Book 56, Hadith 179) #2839
The Impermissibility of Taking Back Gifts of Charity

SUMMARY: It is not permissible to take back a gift of charity once it has been given away.

Narrated 'Umar bin Al-Khattab: I gave a horse to be used in Allah's Cause, but later on I saw it being sold. I asked the Prophet whether I could buy it. He said, "Don't buy it and don't take back your gift of charity".

QUICK LESSONS:
Give generously without expecting anything in return; Be sincere with your intentions when giving out gifts or donations; Do not try to get something from someone after giving a donation; Have gratitude towards Allah SWT's blessings; Be generous with your wealth even if it means sacrificing some comfort for yourself.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of giving charity and how it should be done with sincerity and without any expectation in return. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that when we give something away as a gift or charity, we should not expect anything in return. We should give out of love for Allah SWT and His Messenger ﷺ, expecting nothing but His reward in the Hereafter. This hadith also teaches us that if we have already given something away as a gift or charity, then it is impermissible to take it back again. We must be sincere in our intentions when giving out gifts or donations, and not expect anything from the recipient afterwards.
