Jami at-Tirmidhi 2739 (Book 43, Hadith 4) #28374
A Different Blessing

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ was aware of the Jews' attempt to get him to say a blessing for them when they sneezed, so he responded with a different blessing instead.

Narrated Abu Musa: The Jews used to sneeze in the presence of the Prophet hoping that he would say: 'Yarhamukumullah (May Allah have mercy upon you)'. So he said: 'Yahdikumullahu Wa Yuslihu Balakum (May Allah guide you and rectify your affairs)'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Be open-minded and accept whatever response comes your way.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet's response when the Jews sneezed in his presence. The Jews were hoping that he would say "Yarhamukumullah" which means "May Allah have mercy upon you". However, instead of saying this phrase, the Prophet said "Yahdikumullahu Wa Yuslihu Balakum" which means "May Allah guide you and rectify your affairs". This hadith teaches us that we should not expect people to respond in certain ways just because it is what we want or expect. Instead, we should be open-minded and accept whatever response comes our way. Additionally, this hadith also teaches us that blessings can come in many forms and do not always have to be expressed through words alone.
