Showing Love and Affection

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) showed love and affection to Zaid bin Harithah when he arrived in Al-Madinah.

Narrated 'Aishah: "Zaid bin Harithah arrived in Al-Madinah while the Messenger of Allah was in his house. So he went and knocked at the door, so the Messenger of Allah stood naked (1), dragging his garment - and by Allah! I did not see him naked before nor afterwards - and he hugged him and kissed him". I They say that the meaning of naked here is that he was not wearing his Rida or upper wrap and it was that which was dragging, so the area between the navel and knees were covered. See Tuhfat Al-Ahwadhi.

QUICK LESSONS:
Show your love & affection for those who come to visit you with kindness & hospitality; greet them warmly so they feel welcomed into your home/life; be humble even if you are in a position of power or authority like the Prophet Muhammad was at this time.

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by 'Aishah tells us about the Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) love and affection for Zaid bin Harithah when he arrived in Al-Madinah. When Zaid knocked on the door of the Prophet's house, he opened it while wearing a garment that was dragging from his waist down to his knees. He hugged and kissed him as a sign of welcome and love. This hadith teaches us that we should show our love and affection for those who come to visit us with kindness and hospitality. We should greet them with warmth so they feel welcomed into our homes or lives. It also teaches us that we should be humble even if we are in a position of power or authority like the Prophet Muhammad was at this time.
