QUICK LESSONS:
Shake hands with others as a sign of respect when meeting them

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains the etiquette of greeting someone when you meet them. It is narrated by Anas bin Malik that a man asked the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ if it was necessary to bow down to another person when they meet, and he said no. The man then asked if he should embrace and kiss them, and again the Prophet ﷺ said no. He then asked if he should take their hand and shake it, and this time the Prophet ﷺ said yes. This hadith teaches us that we should not be overly affectionate with people we don't know well, but rather just shake hands as a sign of respect for one another. We can also learn from this hadith that even though physical contact may be seen as a sign of affection in some cultures, it is not necessarily appropriate in all situations or with everyone we meet.
