The Five Pillars of Islam

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that Islam is based on five pillars: testifying to the Oneness of Allah, believing in Muhammad as His Messenger, establishing prayer, giving charity, fasting during Ramadan and performing Hajj.

Narrated Ibn 'Umar: that the Messenger of Allah said: "Islam is based upon five: the testimony of La Ilaha Illallah, and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, the establishment of the Salat, giving the Zakat, fasting (the month of) Ramadan, and performing Hajj to the House".

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that Islam is based on five pillars. These are testifying to the Oneness of Allah by saying “La Ilaha Illallah” which means “There is no God but Allah”. We must also believe in Muhammad ﷺ as His Messenger and establish prayer by praying five times a day. We must also give charity to those who are less fortunate than us and fast during the month of Ramadan. Lastly we must perform Hajj at least once in our lifetime if we can afford it. These five pillars are essential for a Muslim's faith and practice and they help us stay connected with our Creator throughout our lives.
